Borussia Dortmund Rule Out Purchases To Cover Shinji Kagawa Loss

Dortmund will compensate for the loss of Kagawa by searching for replacements within the current squad.
After confirming that star playmaker Shinji Kagawa has sustained a metatarsal fracture, Dortmund have ruled out the possibility of signing a replacement before the January transfer window closes.

"There is no point wondering about it for a long time whether we'll miss him," Juergen Klopp said. "We have alternatives."

Sporting director Michael Zorc confirmed that BVB will keep faith with their current squad.

"We have briefly discussed this issue and have agreed that we will not bring in anyone new. We can compensate for the loss within the squad."

Kagawa fractured his metatarsal while playing for Japan in the Asian Cup, and is expected to miss the rest of the campaign. In his place, Mario Goetze has deputised to great effect, scoring in both of Dortmund's matches thus far. In addition to the 18-year-old, Dortmund have Robert Lewandowski, Mohamed Zidan and Tamas Hajnal as potential deputies.
