Lo Monaco says the rumour was a "journalistic invention" which arose during the transfer season. He also admits that a possible signing could be made within the next 24 hours prior to the window closing.

The director also spoke about the club's injury woes, almost struggling to field a starting XI against Milan on Saturday.

"Mascara will remain at Catania," the director told Itasportpress.it. "The rumours were only a journalistic invention."

"I won't be revealing names, but there could be a chance to make a move on a player.

"We played against the league leaders, and we were missing none players. It is a very difficult moment for the side from this point of view, as everything is going wrong for us.

"I am not even sure who will be playing for us against Cesena midweek," he concluded.
