Tottenham have lodged an improved bid of £25 million for Newcastle striker Andy Carroll, according to The Sun.
It is believed that Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, made the offer directly to the Magpies owner Mike Ashley on Friday.
The initial deal will be worth £22 million, which would eventually rise to the full £25 million, shattering Tottenham's transfer record of £16.5 million for Darren Bent in 2007.
Alan Pardew's side have tried to block all interest for their 22-year-old centre-forward, who has been on top form this season with 11 goals to his name.
The locally born player is currently unavailable for Newcastle through injury and has travelled to Sweden in an effort to help solve a thigh problem that ironically came about in the 2-0 defeat to Spurs last month.
Harry Redknapp is a known admirer of Carroll and has underlined his interest during this month's transfer window with at least one bid already having been rejected by the Toon.
The Spurs boss would be happy to let go of both Robbie Keane and the Russian Roman Pavlyuchenko in order to make room for Carroll.
