Wolfsburg have signed one of Asia's brightest talents, Koo Ja-Cheol after the Jeju United man finished top scorer in the 2011 Asian Cup.
K-League side Jeju United have officially announced that Wolfsburg have signed Koo Ja-Cheol for €2 million.

The midfielder has signed a contract with Die Woelfe until June 30, 2014 and will earn an annual salary of €500,000 a year.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been considered a prospect since a tender age, coming through the South Korean national youth set-up at U-18, U-20 and U-23 level, before becoming the eighth youngest player to represent the senior national side in 2008 against China.

Koo joined Jeju in 2007 but his progress was hampered by niggling injuries before impressing last season with five goals and 12 assists, helping the club to finish as runners-up in the league after ending in mid-table the previous season.

Goal.com's Korean expert Yonghun Lee commented on the former Jeju United man: "Koo is a calm midfielder, with sharp passing and great vision. A known fan of Scotland international and Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher, he tries to play like him. He is devoted to helping the team as a whole and runs tirelessly."

Koo played as a second striker in the 2011 Asian Cup, helping South Korea finish third with the opening goal against Uzbekistan. He finished the tournament top scorer with five goals and three assists.
