Ivan Rakitic Pleased To Have Joined Sevilla From Schalke

Croatia international Ivan Rakitic feels he is taking a step up in his career by joining Sevilla.
Newly signed Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic is looking forward to pitting himself against some of the best players in the world after moving to the Primera Division club from Schalke.

The Croatian’s switch was formally confirmed on Friday, and he was quick to tell the press of his pleasure at joining up with the Andalucian club.

“Sevilla is a great opportunity for my career,” he explained to los Nervionenses’ official website. “I had many choices, many clubs in other leagues asked for me, but wanted to come to Spanish football and Sevilla seemed the best option, since they are a great team and I will not have problems adapting.”

Born in Switzerland, Rakitic grew through the Basel youth system before switching to Schalke in 2007. He has gained four years of Bundesliga experience, during which time he switched his international allegiance from the country of his birth to the nation of his parents. Rakitic has since played more than 25 times for Croatia and at 22-years-old is a player with plenty of potential.
