Though Valter Birsa hopes to join Genoa before the end of the present transfer window, it's likelier he has to wait until summer.
Valter Birsa has confirmed that he wishes to move to Genoa before the transfer window shuts early next week, but he has revealed that Auxerre coach Jean Fernandez will not allow him to depart.
Out of contract in June, Slovenian winger Birsa confirmed that Genoa had made him a “very interesting proposal”, but because of the club’s chronic injury problems he will have to wait until the summer to finally take leave of the Stade Abbe-Deschamps.
“I talked to the coach, but there are too many injuries to let me go,” the 24-year-old lamented. “He knows what I want, he understands my situation, but he assures me he cannot let go now.
“If Auxerre will not sell me, I will sign on February 1 for the next season. I have the right, since I am free in June but I'd really like to be able to go forward.”
Birsa has not always been a regular with AJA, but his performances for his nation during World Cup 2010 caught the eye, introducing the 24-year-old offensive midfielder to a worldwide audience.
