Barcelona defender Eric Abidal to finally agree to contract extension at the Camp Nou.
Barcelona defender Eric Abidal is on the verge of agreeing a one-year extension to his current contract at the Camp Nou.

The French stopper’s current deal with the Catalan giants expires in the summer of 2012, but coach Pep Guardiola has been keen to tie down the former Lyon man to a longer deal.

A 12-month extension with the option of a further year has been offered to the 31-year-old, who has previously remained coy on whether he would sign a new contract, fearing that his body may not be up to the challenge of playing until the age of 34.

However, Sport comments that he has had a rethink of his situation, and decided to commit himself to, as he claims, "the best club in the world".

It is understood that there are few complications in the way of salary adjustments, and that the club will look to announce the deal very soon.

Should Abidal put pen to paper, it would mean that only Dani Alves would be yet to sign a new deal, after the recent confirmation that Sergio Busquets will remain with the Blaugrana until 2015.
