Racing have reappointed former boss Marcelino as their head coach after the departure of Miguel Angel Portugal.
Racing Santander have moved quickly to appoint Marcelino Garcia Toral as their new head coach following the departure of Miguel Angel Portugal on Monday.

Portugal was dismissed just two matches into the reign of new owner Ali Syed, despite achieving draws against Valencia and Zaragoza, and yesterday claimed to have never met the new man in charge.

The 45-year-old Marcelino now returns to the club where he spent a successful spell in the 2007-08 season, leading the Cantabrians to a sixth-placed finish in La Liga to earn European qualification before moving to Zaragoza.

He has been out of work since being dismissed by the Blanqullios in December 2009, but Syed believes he can recapture former glories at El Sardinero, although no details of the length of contract have been divulged as yet.

The tactician has been presented to the players this morning before training, and will begin preparation for the weekend fixture against Sevilla.
