Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez believes new signing Ander Herrera will prove to worth his transfer fee.
Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez is of the opinion that new addition Ander Herrera will prove to be an invaluable signing for the club.

The Spanish Under-21 international will join up with the Basque outfit in the summer after Zaragoza agreed to his sale for a fee in the region of €8.5 million.

Speaking to the media today Martinez, who has shared the pitch with the exciting 21-year-old with the young La Roja team is certain of Herrera's ability to prove his worth.

He commented, “This is great news for everyone, for Athletic, for himself and for the fans. I’m also very glad he could come because he is a very good friend. This is part of the intention to make a great team.

“I realise it has been a difficult investment, because it was worth many millions, but it is okay because he will be worth it.”

Martinez added that Herrera’s signing is likely to be followed by his own contract renewal at San Mames.

“If all goes well I will sign. They are releasing many issues with my renewal, but I have little idea because I have left it to my representatives.”
