Maxi Pereira is reportedly on the verge of signing a new deal with Benfica.
Uruguay international Maxi Pereira is on the verge of signing a contract extension with Benfica, according to a report in A Bola.
The wing-back's current contract runs until the summer of 2012, but the reigning Portuguese champions are eager to hold on to the 26-year-old.
Pereira impressed at the 2010 World Cup and was consequently linked with a move away from the Lisbon outfit last summer. He opted to stay put though and is now set to confirm his long-term future to the Europa League hopefuls.
Negotiations between both parties have been going on for quite a while now and the report claims that an agreement should be reached in the upcoming days. Pereira will reportedly sign a contract until 2014 and will get a significant pay rise.
Pereira started his professional career with Defensor and joined Benfica in the summer of 2007. He has since made well over 100 official appearances for the Aguias.
