FIFA Turn Down Russia Football Association Request For Extra Transfer Window

FIFA has reportedly turned down a request from the Russian FA asking for an extra transfer window.
According to a report in Sport Express, FIFA has turned down an official request from the Russian Football Association (RAF) asking to be allowed an extra transfer window this season.

Russia is switching to the European football calendar and will host a championship consisting of three legs rather than two in 2011-12.

The RAF had asked permission for a third transfer window to compensate for the extending of this season, but world football's governing body was not impressed with the request.

“We have already sent a request on this matter to FIFA. We were told that their position remains the same, but we aren’t losing heart. We will continue talks with the International Federation and hope that we’ll be able to come to an agreement,” Sergey Cheban, the Russian Premier League’s executive director, told Sport-Express newspaper.

FIFA's decision to turn down RAF's request means that Russian clubs will be unable to add to their ranks in the summer of 2011 or in the winter of 2012.
