Gary Medel believes Sevilla have enough quality in their squad to make a push for the Champions League positions.
Sevilla midfielder Gary Medel believes that it is still possible for the club to qualify for this season’s Champions League, despite trailing fourth-placed Valencia by 13 points in the table.
Los Nervionenses have been plagued by inconsistency throughout the campaign, and Sunday’s 0-0 draw with bottom club Malaga edged them further adrift of the top four in La Liga.
The winter signing from Boca Juniors feels however that there is enough quality in the team to bring about a resurgence in the second half of the season.
The Chilean remarked: "We have potential. We remain many points behind, and we still hope we can make the [Champions League] qualifying positions. I am happy, peaceful and working hard to fight for big things here."
Medel also spoke of his first appearance for his new side in last week’s defeat to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey, and his initial impressions of his new midfield colleagues.
He added: "I was very anxious to make my debut, and I will fight hard to win a spot in this midfield. I get on very well with Romaric, he is a good partner and very supportive, as is [Didier] Zokora, who has spent many years in football."
