After speculation linking him to River Plate, Nestor Ortigoza finally opts for a $2.5 million switch to rivals San Lorenzo.
Ambitious San Lorenzo have once more entered the summer transfer market in Argentina, swooping to sign highly-rated Argentinos Juniors midfielder Nestor Ortigoza under the nose of River Plate.
Urgente 24 reports that the 26-year-old, born in Argentina but a Paraguay international by virtue of his parents' place of birth, signed a three-year deal on Thursday with the Bajo Flores institution and will be presented at the club before the weekend.
Argentinos will receive between $2.5 and 3 million for the player, who was influential in the Bicho's championship-winning season in the 2010 Clausura.
Ortigoza had been linked to several Argentine clubs during the summer, with River Plate appearing favourites to secure his signature. Talks between the two clubs however stalled over Argentinos' refusal to release him on a loan deal, and meanwhile San Lorenzo were the only club willing to buy him outright.
The player becomes the club's sixth new signing of the transfer window, joining Pablo Velazquez, Giancarlo Carmona, Jonathan Ferrari, Juan Manuel Salgueiro and Matias Gimenez at the Cuervo.
