Salvador Cabanas Returns To Football With Libertad

Libertad confirm that former America and Paraguay striker Salvador Cabanas will join a club training session on Thursday afternoon.
Salvador Cabanas has started training again a year after being shot in the head, and will continue his rehabilitation at Paraguayan club Libertad.

The 30-year-old striker will join in training sessions this Thursday, and will continue practising with the current Paraguayan champions, according to CNN Mexico.

The former America star is still some way off reappearing on a football pitch, but the step is a clear intention that Cabanas is committed to restarting his career after the attack which almost killed him in January 2010.

"It gives us immense pride to have him with us," Repollero coach Gregorio Perez affirmed on Thursday, while the player's father revealed that, "the entire family is delighted" with the news that his son has rejoined a football club.

Cabanas was shot in the head in a Mexico City nightclub just over a year ago, and after coming close to death doctors feared that he would never be able to play again.

The Paraguay international is currently embroiled in a legal battle with America over unpaid wages and medical bills, as well as a further row with former agent Jose Maria Gonzalez, whom he accuses of stealing large sums of money from him throughout their working relationship.
